DNS4ME SETUP GUIDE

iPhone and iPad DoH

Follow the instructions below to get started with DNS4ME.

YOUR GUIDE

Setup instructions

DNS over HTTPS (DoH) encrypts DNS requests between your device and the DNS server. It does not encrypt all your internet traffic or replace a VPN.

Before you begin

Complete the initial setup, register your current public IP in IP Access Zones, and enable the services you want to use. Update your zone if your public IP changes.

Sign in to choose a nearby server below, or find its address in Console > DNS Servers.

Set up iPhone or iPad

iOS and iPadOS 14 or later can use encrypted DNS through a configuration profile. This profile configures DNS for the device, not just one browser. Managed devices may restrict profile installation.

Create your DNS profile

Choose a server or enter an HTTPS address from DNS Servers. When location data is available, nearby servers are listed first using your connection or registered zone location. The profile is created in your browser.

Sign in to see nearby DNS servers.

Install and check

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, download the profile above in Safari. If it is saved to Files, open the downloaded file to begin installation.
  2. Open Settings > Profile Downloaded, tap Install, and follow the prompts. Apple may require additional security steps.
  3. Review the profile before installing it. It is unsigned, so iOS will show a warning. Only install it if the DNS server is the address you intended to use.
  4. Open a website to confirm it loads, then run the connection check below on the device. A VPN, browser-specific DNS setting, or another DNS app may override the profile.

To remove a profile, open Settings > General > VPN & Device Management, select the profile, and remove it. Only remove a profile you recognize. See Apple's profile installation instructions.

Check your setup

Open the Connection Check on the same connection. If it reports a problem, confirm your IP zone and service settings, check the address you entered, and retry. A VPN, another DNS app, browser DNS settings, or a managed device policy may change which resolver is used.

If your app or device rejects the address or websites stop loading, restore your previous DNS setting and contact support.
